Remember that safety is everyone’s responsibility:
- Treat all firearms as if they are loaded
- Always point firearms in a safe direction
- Keep your finger off the trigger and outside the trigger guard until you are ready to fire
- Be certain of your target and backstop
- Safety at all times must be the first priority
Introduction
This introductory is intended to give newcomers who are interested in our sport an overview of basic skills and procedures however it does not aim to replace training with an instructor. An experienced instructor will spot problems and rectify them before they develop into serious problems, this can never be replaced by reading a manual. To compete in sanctioned IPSC competitions you are required to be a member of the IPSC Region in which you reside and some Regions also require you to pass a formal assessment. When you make contact you can ask what is required in your Region and see if they can suggest clubs where you can get started.
Before you spend any money I recommend that you search the web or Practiscore for a 3gun or 2gun match in your local area. It is important that you do some research before diving into what seems to be an ocean of possibilities for guns and equipment. At the match find the Match Director and ask if they could introduce you to the sport. Be sure to check out the Vendors Corner as there are lot of years of experience there for you to look at and people to visit with about products or services. In the US, currently, there are very few and far between shotgun only matches but we hopes of that changing with the Challenge. Ask the MD if they would show you around to take a look at some of the stages and see different types of equipment. You can also do web search for YouTube IPSC Shotgun World Shoot videos. “Research before you buy!” Brian Nelson Pro Shooter
